Challenges: NBA Oklahoma City Thunder was looking for a way to more securely and effectively store, search and query player data and facilitate centralized communication between their scouts, staff, coaches, owners, medical team, and agents. They needed to provide access to sensitive communications and immediate searchability of data they collect on their team as well as players throughout the world. Their prior method relied on an unsecure email platform and dated software that was unreliable and required enormous manual effort to compile data for simple queries. The new request was to build a modern platform that would provide much needed data security, facilitate easy capture & entry of data (including automated feeds from external data sources) and give the organization lightning fast results to queries about any team, player, coach or person in the NBA, NCAA, and other basketball leagues around the world. A stretch goal included creating an application that would provide much wanted real-time insights during live games.
Outcomes: Spinakr was brought in to design, build and maintain a custom platform that provided all of the features, functions, reporting, and security measures that the staff needed in order to increase their ability to communicate more effectively. This secure website with mobile application empowered the team with real-time data and communications to make highly informed real-time decisions. A proprietary, real-time in-game analytics application was also developed to give the coaches even further access to insights and data that helps them inform on the fly decisions during games.
